VERONA, N.Y. – Brian Grubbs (Cortez, Colo./Montezuma Cortez) finished 17th to lead the Saint Peter's men's golf team to a seventh-place standing at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate on Monday.
Grubbs improved in each round during the first event of the year for the defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champions. After posting an 81 in the first round, the senior carded a 75 in the second round and a 73 on Sunday to post a three-round score of 229 to place 17 and finish 16 strokes behind the medalist.
Eric Edmunds (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneatles) also posted a 73 on the afternoon to finish one stroke behind Grubbs with a 230 in 21st place. Dominic Diaz (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) posted a team-best 71 in the final round to tie Edmunds in the three-day tournament in 21st place with a 230 while
Brandon Molson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) (53rd place, 251) also competed in all three rounds for the Peacocks. The quartet each improved on their scores in the three rounds.
Nicholas Dilio (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) notched the best opening round for the team with a 79, but then withdrew from the competition in the second round.
Missouri won its own two-day, three-round event with a score of 870, 10 strokes ahead of Cleveland State (880) while Detroit (905), Villanova (911) and Central Connecticut State (911) round out the Top-5 teams in the field. Saint Peter's posted a 326 in the first round and a 307 in the second round before notching a 298 in the final round to post a three-round score of 931 to finish in seventh place.
The Peacocks return to the green at the Rutgers Fall Invitational on Sept. 19.
