Box Score 1 BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season on Friday against Delaware St. at the Crosstown Tournament.
Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) powered the Peacocks with a career mark of 25 kills in the contest. Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) tallied 42 assists while Kayla Howell (Monrovia, Calif./Monrovia) added 17 digs in the victory.
In the opening set, Saint Peter's (1-6) started fast, building an 11-4 lead. The Peacocks did not relinquish the advantage, taking the opening set 25-17.
Second game, both teams traded points in the early going, tying the set at 13. The Hornets used a 4-1 spurt to take a 17-14 lead. Saint Peter's countered with three straight points to knot the game at 17. The Peacocks began to pull away, using a 6-3 run to take a 23-20 edge. Delaware St. made a run at the end, but Saint Peter's was able to hold on for the 25-23 set victory.
In the third set, the Hornets opened up with a 12-5 lead. Saint Peter's tried to inch its way back, getting within three points of tying the set, but Delaware St. avoided the sweep with a 25-19 set win.
Fourth set, the Hornets mounted an early 18-9 lead. Saint Peter's did not lie down, scoring four straight times to trim the deficit. Delaware St. countered with two scores to extend its lead, 20-13.
The Peacocks did not go away, answering with five consecutive points to get within two scores. Following a Delaware St. score, Saint Peter's ended the match on a 7-2 run to win the decisive set, 25-23.
Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Trujillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) finished with 12 kills in the contest. Meredith Przybocki (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) posted six kills and accounted for five total blocks.
Saint Peter's opened up the Crosstown Tournament against Lehigh (4-6), but suffered a loss to the Mountain Hawks in straight sets.
The Peacocks conclude its time at the Crosstown Tournament tomorrow, when the tournament shifts to Lafayette to take on the Leopards. Opening serve is set for 12:30 p.m.
