Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Carlee Gonzalez (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) notched her first collegiate goal in a 5-1 loss at Yale in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday.
Gonzalez posted the Peacocks (0-7-0) first tally of the season off the foot of fellow freshman Naima Gustafsson (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy), a local product from Jersey City, who notched her first career point on the play.
Sarah McCauley paced the Bulldogs with two tallies while Ana Keusch and Geneva Decker also found the back of the net and Melissa Gavin dished out three assists in the winning effort.
Yale scored the first five goals of the night to record its fourth win in the series against Saint Peter's.
McCauley got the scoring started when she found the twine off a feeder from Gavin at the 4:04 mark for a 1-0 edge. The duo hooked up again for the Bulldogs second goal of the night and was also aided by a second assist by Shannon Conneely exactly 10 minutes later for a two-goal lead. Decker capped a three-goal first half off a pass from Frannie Coxe at 41:48 for a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Yale added two its lead early in the second frame when Keusch scored off feeders from Gavin and Karina Kovaicik that knocked off the cross bar and into the netting at 49:39 for a 4-0 lead. The Bulldogs were credited with a fifth goal on an own goal at 63:44 for a 5-0 margin.
Gustafsson help to end the shutout when she sent a pass forward to Gonzalez, who scored with 1:46 left in the match to set the final score and to notch the Peacocks first tally of the year.
Lauren Solene (Fall City, Wash./Mount Si) made seven saves in nearly 76 minutes of work while Elise Wilcox turned away two shots for Yale. The game in New Haven ended a six-game road trip for the Jersey City program.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Thursday when the squad returns makes its 2014 Jaroschak Field debut and open up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play against Canisius on Thursday. Match time is 3 p.m.
