Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Monmouth defeated Saint Peter's 8-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Barbara Paiva (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) scored her sixth goal of the season in the 88th minute for the Peacocks (2-11-0, 0-6-0 MAAC) while Kelly Jamison (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) made four saves in the loss.
Paiva, who has the most goals in a season for a Saint Peter's player since 1999, broke through two defenders and popped a shot over the goalkeeper's head with the netminder outside the box and into the netting at the 87:06 mark.
Kelly Wieczerzak paced the Hawks (10-2-2, 6-1-0 MAAC) with her first career hat trick. Rachael Ivanicki added two tallies while Alexis McTamney, Erica Murphy and Rachelle Ross each registered a goal and an assist in the winning effort.
Monmouth scored six times in the first half and twice in the second half en route to its third victory against Saint Peter's in league play.
McTamney got the scoring started when she beat a defender and hit the ball into the right netting at 16:35 for a 1-0 edge. Ivanicki then completed a pass in front of the net from Murphy at 20:31 before McTamney set up Murphy two minutes and 10 seconds later for a three-goal lead.
