Navy Sinks Saint Peter's Women's Basketball, 50-39

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Navy defeated Saint Peter's 50-39 in non-conference women's basketball action on Sunday.

Sajanna Bethea (Levittown, Pa./Pennbury) paced the Peacocks (0-2) with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

Ashanti Kennedy paced the Midshipmen (1-1) with 14 points in the winning effort.

Saint Peter's started the game strong before Navy used a good second and third quarter to take the lead and go on for the victory.

Trailing 24-11 at the half, the Midshipmen scored 20 of the 31 points in the third quarter to take a 41-35 advantage.

With the Peacocks holding a 30-23 lead, Navy closed the quarter on a 17-5 run to take the lead it would not relinquish at 41-35. Kennedy scored seven points in the run, including trailing the 3-pointerwith 4:15 on the clock to give the Midshipmen the lead for good. Navy then scored nine of the 13 points in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Saint Peter's jumped out to a 6-0 lead on the day thanks to four points from Bethea and extended its lead to 10 points at 16-6 with 1:45 left in the period and went into the second quarter with a 20-11 advantage.

In a low-scoring third quarter, Navy outscored the Jersey City team 10-4 to trim the margin to 24-21 going into the locker room. The Midshipmen then used a strong third quarter to take the lead and hold on for the victory.

The Peacocks return to action on Friday against Stony Brook. Game time is 7 p.m.
