JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Saint Peter's women's soccer head coach Rob Bielan has announced his 2015 schedule. The schedule is highlighted by eight games in Jersey City, including the first two matches of the year.
"Our non-conference schedule is very exciting because we have reestablished and continued relationships with quality Division I programs around the area," said Bielan, who is in his third year at the helm of the women's soccer program. "We have a demanding schedule that will help us get in better physical condition for conference play."
The Peacocks will open up its 24th season in program history at home against NJIT on Aug. 21. Bielan has started the year in Jersey City all three years as a head coach of Saint Peter's and the squad will play at home for the fourth-straight inaugural game and the 11th overall. The Highlanders have won the last five meetings in the neighboring city rivalry to take a 6-2-1 margin in the all-time series.
Wagner comes to town on Aug. 26 to complete the opening two-game homestand. The Seahawks will be Saint Peter's second game on the schedule for the second-consecutive campaign. Winners of four straight in the matchup, Wagner has tied the all-time series at 8-8-1.
After the two games at Jaroschak Field to start the season, the Peacocks hit the road for a four of its next five games. The squad will play its first road contest at Lafayette on Aug. 30. The Leopards are riding a 15-game unbeaten streak (14-0-1) in the series and hold a 13-5-1 margin in the all-time series.
Saint Peter's heads to LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 4 with the Blackbirds winners of five consecutive and a 5-1 edge in the all-time series.
The Peacocks return home to face Hampton on Sept.7. The Pirates are in their inaugural women's soccer season and the game at Jaroschak Field will be Hampton's third-ever contest.
Saint Peter's hits the road for its next two games, starting at Holy Cross on Sept. 11 for the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Peacocks then open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play at Siena on Sept. 19. The Jersey City team will open up league play on the road for the first time under Bielan and the 15th time in team history. The Saints have won 17 straight in the matchup to lead the series 20-4-1.
Saint Peter's returns home to close out non-conference play against Delaware State on Sept. 24. The Hornets bested the Peacocks for only the second time in program history last season, but Saint Peter's holds an 8-2-1 lead in the all-time series.
The team completes a two-game homestand with its circuit home opener against Quinnipiac on Sept. 26. The Bobcats have won all six matches in the series, including both contests since joining the league in 2013.
Saint Peter's then heads down to Lawrenceville for an hOURglass Rivalry matchup under the lights against Rider on Sept. 30. The Broncs have won the last three games in the series and hold a 14-4 margin in the matchup.
The Peacocks return to Jersey City for a tilt against Marist on Oct. 3. The Red Foxes have won the last two meetings in the series to grab a 15-4 edge in the series.
Saint Peter's will play under the lights for the second-straight Wednesday when it travels to Manhattan on Oct. 7. The Jaspers have won the last 17 matches in the series to take a 21-3 advantage.
The Peacocks host a two-game conference homestand, starting with an hOURglass Rivalry matchup against Monmouth on Oct. 14 before Niagara comes to town on Oct. 17. The Hawks have won all 20 matches in the series including the first two meetings since joining the MAAC in 2013. Winners of the last five contests in the series, the Purple Eagles led the series 15-6.
A final road trip consists of matches at Iona on Oct. 21 and a trip to Buffalo on Oct. 24 against Canisius. The Gaels have won the last three tilts in the matchup and lead the series 13-8-2. Greta Vogel scored a natural hat trick in a span of seven minutes last season to defeat the Golden Griffins 3-1 to end a 10-game losing skid against Canisius. The Golden Griffins lead the Jesuit battle, 18-5.
The squad concludes the season at home against Fairfield on Oct. 28 for Senior Day. The Stags are riding a 24-game unbeaten streak in the series and lead the matchup, 23-0-1.
The Top-6 teams in the standings will advance to the MAAC Women's Soccer Championships. The top two seeds receive a bye to the semifinals with the other four teams playing on Oct. 31. The two winners advance to the MAAC Semifinals and Finals on Nov. 6 and 8 hosted by the regular season champion.
Saint Peter's returns eight players from last year and will have 12 newcomers on the roster in 2015.
