Fordham Downs Saint Peter's Women's Volleyball In Home Opener, 3-1

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Fordham defeated Saint Peter's 3-1 in non-conference women's volleyball action on Tuesday. The Rams won the match with scores of 25-20, 25-23, 24-26, 25-14 in the home opener for the Jersey City team.

Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) paced the Peacocks (1-6) with 14 kills and 16 digs while Amanda Colombo (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) added 10 kills and Kaitlyn Sitton (Brush Praire, Wash./Praire) posted a team-best 37 assists in the loss.

Breanna Jones fueled Fordham (4-5) with 13 kills and 11 digs while Natalie Martinez registered 13 kills. Emily Fronk fueled the team with 20 assists.

The first three sets were closely contested with the Rams taking two of the first three sets before earning the win with a 25-14 fourth-set victory.

The first set a battle with Fordham holding the advantage for most of the set. With the Rams holding a 20-17 advantage they scored five of the final eight points to take the first set, 25-20.

In the second set, the Peacocks tied the game at 20 after two attack errors by Fordham. Saint Peter's then took a 23-22 lead after a Behrens' kill. A pair of attack errors by the Peacocks and a service ace gave the Rams the second set and a 2-0 lead.

The Peacocks jumped out to a 16-11 advantage in the third set. Fordham answered back to tie the set at 19 and again at 23 before kills by Colombo and Behrens and an attack error by the Rams gave Saint Peter's the third set 26-24.

In the fourth set, Saint Peter's raced out to a 5-1 lead after a kill by Behrens. Fordham responded with 19 of the next 24 points to take a 20-10 lead en route to a 25-14 set and match win.

The Peacocks return to action on Wednesday when they start conference play against Rider in an hOURglass Rivalry matchup. Game time is 7 p.m.
