GAME 17: ITEMS OF NOTE
>> Friday's game between Saint Peter's and Iona marks 112th meeting in the all-time series dating back to 1946-47 season.
>> The Peacocks ended a four-game losing streak to the Gaels last season with a 68-60 win on Mar. 1, 2015 in the regular season finale.
>>Iona last win came when the team rallied to defeat Saint Peter's 68-61 in overtime on Jan. 31, 2015 at the Hynes Center.
>> Saint Peter's is 8-11 under head coach John Dunne against the Gaels, including a 3-6 mark in New Rochelle.
>> Desi Washington paced the Peacocks in the last meeting with 19 points while Tyler Gaskins added 16 points and Marvin Dominique chipped in 10 points in the last match up against the Gaels.
>> Senior A.J. English powered Iona with 17 points while Kelvin Amayo posted 15 points and David Laury registered 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
>> In last two games at Hynes Center, the game has either been tied or the Peacocks had the lead in the final four seconds and English helped the Gaels prevail. In 2014, English hit the game-winning trey with 0.7 seconds left in a 62-59 win and then dished out an assist to Kelvin Amayo with 0.6 seconds left to tie the game and Iona won the game in overtime last season in New Rochelle.
>> Saint Peter's comes into the contest 8-8 overall and 6-1 in league play after defeating Fairfield 77-71 on Tuesday.
>> Freshman Antwon Portley posted 19 of his game-high 23 points in the first half while junior Trevis Wyche scored all 20 of his points in the second half. Junior Quadir Welton tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win in a game played at Alumni Hall.
>> Portley leads the team with 14.8 points per game this season.
>> The Gaels comes into the contest 9-8 overall and 6-2 in league play after falling 79-75 at Rider on Sunday.
>> English paced Iona against the Broncs with 27 points while sophomore Deyshonee Much added 14 points, graduate student Aaron Roundtree posted 11 points and senior Isaiah Williams chipped in 10 points.
>> English is one of four Gaels scoring double figures, leading the way with a team-best 25.4 points per game this season.
>> Saint Peter's returns home to host Manhattan on Sunday and Rider on Jan. 28 on ESPN3. The Jaspers won all three meetings last season, including ending the Peacocks season in the MAAC Tournament Semifinals while Saint Peter's defeated the Broncs 73-61 in the league opener on Dec. 2. After losing three straight to Rider, the Jersey City team has won its last two against the Broncs.
>> Saint Peter's will then travel to Monmouth on Jan. 30.
>> Starting with the game at Iona, the Jersey City team will play five games in 11 days with four games against teams picked at the top of the league in the preseason poll.
>> The Peacocks will play five of its first six MAAC games in the month of January, but will have eight of its last 12 tilts at the Yanitelli Center.
UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
>> Saint Peter's will host Manhattan on Sunday in the Peacocks first home ESPN3 game of the year. Saint Peter's athletics will hand out newly designed "Strut Your Pride t-shirts and encourage all fans to wear white in order to "Whiteout The Jaspers."
>> The Peacocks will also be "Lacing Up 4 Pediatric Cancer" for its men's basketball game against Rider on Jan. 28 on ESPN3 and its women's basketball contest against Siena on Jan. 30. During the games, t-shirts, bracelets and shoelaces will be sold with all proceeds going to the Go 4 The Goal foundation to pediatric cancer research.
WHAT A START
>> Saint Peter's has started the league slate 6-1 for the sixth time in program history, joining the 1981-82, 1988-89 and 1994-95 teams.
>> The Peacocks are looking for its fourth 6-1 start in program history, joining the 1981-82, 1988-89 and 1994-95 squads.
>> It marks the best start under head coach John Dunne and the second best start in team history. The 1987-88 team started the circuit, 8-0.
>> Dunne started the circuit 4-3 in 2009-10 and 2010-11 through seven games for the previous best start under the coach.
>> While the squad has won six of its first seven league games three times, the squad has started the slate 6-2 three times (1983-84,1986-87, 1993-94).
>> During Saint Peter's three MAAC Tournament titles, the teams were 5-3 in 1990-91 and 2010-11 and 6-1 in 1994-95 after seven conference games.
WHAT'S TRENDING
>> Freshman Antwon Portley paced the team in scoring for the fourth time this season after posting his sixth 20-point performance of the season with 23 points against Fairfield. Portley, who has recorded double figures in points in six-straight contests, notched his first 20-point game since scoring 22 against Cornell on Dec. 28. The freshman has posted double figures in 12 of the 16 games this season and is averaging 15.8 points per game in his last eight games. The squad is 6-3 this season when the freshman scores at least 15 points in a contest.
>> Junior Trevis Wyche has posted 38 of his last 40 points in the second half in his last two games. After scoring two points in the first half against Marist on Sunday, the junior notched 18 points in the second half against the Red Foxes and then registered all 20 of his points against Fairfield in the final frame on Tuesday. Since the game at George Washington, Wyche has posted seven double-figure games in his last eight contests, including his first three 20-point performances of his career. The only game he did not reach double figures in that stretch was against Cornell on Dec. 28 and he did not play at all in the second half. Since the New Year, he has scored at least 16 points in the five games and has led the team in scoring in four of the five games. The junior is averaging 18.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game in 2016. In his last six games, Wyche is 26-for-32 (81.2 percent) from the free throw line, including 20 of 23 (86.9 percent) in his last three games.
>> Wyche has also dished out eight assists in three of the last four games, including a season-high nine assists on Sunday to narrowly miss his first career double-double. With his four assists against the Stags, Wyche moved into eighth place on the program's all-time assist list with 309 dimes.
>> Junior Quadir Welton notched his third double-double of the season and fifth of his career with his 13 points and 10 rebounds against Fairfield. Welton, who has posted three-straight games with at least 10 points, has nine double-figure point games and five games with at least 10 rebounds. The junior is averaging 12.3 points and 8.0 rebounds in his last three games. The Peacocks have won the last six games when Welton has posted double-figures in a game and losing the first three game when he scored 10 points in a game.
>> After playing five games in the first 21 days of the month of January, the Peacocks will play five times over the next 11 days.
SCORING LEADERS
>> Saint Peter's has had six different players lead the team in scoring this year.
>> Junior Trevis Wyche has led the team in points six times this season, including five of the last seven games. The junior has nine double-figure games this season, including three 20-point performances in his career and all three games have come in the last eight days.
>> Freshman Antwon Portley has paced the team in scoring four times this season. The freshman has six 20+ games this season and has posted double figures in points in 12 games this year.

ON THE ROAD
>> Freshman Antwon Portley is averaging a team-best 15.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in the squad's 10 road games this season. The freshman has five 20-point performances on the road, including 25 points against Rider on Dec. 2.
>> Junior Trevis Wyche is also averaging 14.9 points along with 3.4 rebounds per game away from Jersey City, including posting double figures eight times. Wyche has eclipsed his career-high twice on the road this season, including 26 points at George Washington on Dec.19. He has found double figures in his last five road games.
>> The Peacocks are averaging 68.9 points per game on the road and are shooting 44.6 percent from the floor while the opponent is averaging 70.6 points per game and shooting 44.0 percent per game.
>> Saint Peter's is 4-6 on the road after defeating Fairfield 77-71 on Jan. 17.
>> The Peacocks are 4-1 on the road in conference play after wins against Rider, Marist, Canisius and Fairfield.

>> Junior Quadir Welton ranks second in rebounds (7.5 pg.), third in offensive rebounds (3.3) and fifth in blocks (1.1).
>> Junior Chazz Patterson ranks seventh in the defensive rebounds (4.5 pg.) and 10th in steals (1.3).
>> Freshman Antwon Portley is sixth in minutes played (33.9 pg.), eighth in 3-pointers made (2.3) and ninth in scoring (15.3 ppg.).
PORTLEY HONORED THREE TIMES
>> Freshman Antwon Portley was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week for the first weekend of the season and then received the honor again for the week of Nov. 30-Dec. 6. He was also named the Corvias ECAC Rookie of the Week for the Nov. 30-Dec. 6 time frame before nabbing the honor for the third time for the week of Dec. 14-20.
>> Portley averaged 19.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in his first two collegiate games to earn the honor for the first time, including posting a career-high 30 points in a 77-65 win against Brown on Nov. 13. The freshman posted 23 of his 30 points in the second half and powered a decisive 30-9 run in the final frame with 13 points. Portley then scored nine points against Lafayette on Nov. 15, including posting two baskets in the closing minutes of regulation to force overtime.
>> The freshman then averaged 18.0 points per game to lead Saint Peter's to its first 2-0 league start since 2010-11. Portley scored 25 points in a 73-61 win at Rider on Dec. 2 and then added 11 points against Siena on Dec. 6.
>> Portley scored 21 points against No. 21 George Washington on Dec. 19 to earn the honor for the third time this season.
>> Portley is the first player under head coach John Dunne to earn the honor three times. Wesley Jenkins won the award twice during the 2006-07 season.
NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A CAREER DAY
>> Junior Trevis Wyche posted a career-high 26 points against No. 21 George Washington on Dec. 19.
>> Junior Quadir Welton has posted a career-high performance in two of his last three games. The junior posted 18 points against Siena on Dec. 6 to reset his career high that he set after scoring 17 points against Fairleigh Dickinson.
>> Junior Chazz Patterson scored a career-high 17 points against the Saints on Dec. 6. The junior registered 16 points twice this season before his 17 points against Siena.
>> Freshman Cameron Jones notched a career-high 21 points off the bench against Princeton on Nov. 21.
>> Freshman Antwon Portley recorded a career-high 30 points in his collegiate debut against Brown on Nov. 13. He is the first freshman to score 30 points in a game under head coach John Dunne and is just the second player to post 30 points in his Saint Peter's debut after Marvin Dominique tallied 31 points against LIU Brooklyn in the 2013-14 season opener.
MILESTONE WATCH
>> Junior Quadir Welton ranks ninth in program history in blocked shots with 83 rejections. Welton moved into ninth place with one block against Fairfield on Jan. 19. He can move into seventh place with four rejections.
>> Junior Trevis Wyche became the ninth player in program history to dish out 300 assists after handing out nine dimes against Marist on Jan. 17. Wyche, who has 309 assists, moved into eighth place after dishing out four helpers against Fairfield on Jan. 19, can move into seventh place with 22 assists.
>> Wyche, who needs 25 assists to reach 100 for the third-straight season, is the first Peacocks player to record consecutive 100 assist seasons since Keydren Clark did it all four years of his career. Wyche had 120 assists as a freshman and 114 last year.
ASSISTING WYCHE
>> Junior Trevis Wyche has fueled the team in assists in 60 of the 81 games in his career.
>> Wyche became the first player since Keydren Clark against Marist on Jan. 25, 2006 to hand out 10 assists in a game when he had 10 dimes against Boston University on Dec. 6. It was also the first time a player reached the feat on the road since Clark did it in 2004.
>> The junior has dished out at least five assists in a game 30 times in his three seasons and seven or more 12 times, including four times in 2015-16. Wyche has posted three games with eight assists and one nine-assist game this season.
>> He also fueled the team in steals 35 times and notched a personal-best four thefts against Siena on Jan. 25, 2015.
>> Wyche recorded double figures in points 27 times in his career, including three 20-point performances.

WELTON THE ROAD WARRIOR
>> Junior Quadir Welton has posted 24 games with at least 10 points and nine games with at least 10 rebounds.
