Box Score RIVERDALE, NY - Saint Peter's Women's Volleyball loss to Manhattan 3-0(14-25, 12-25, 16-25) in their second meeting of the season on Wednesday night.
Marlena Budna, Meredith Przybocki and Kristina Nieves split the team kills-lead adding 5 kills each. Nieves led the Peacocks with 7 points and Budna followed with 6.5 points.
The first set was tough for the Peacocks as Manhattan scored 15 out of the first 16 points of the game, leaving the peacocks behind 1-15. From there it was tough for the Peacocks to get back on their feet to catch up to the Jaspers as Manhattan won the first set 25-14.
In the second set, the Jaspers set the tone for the match as they doubled Saint Peter's score at the midpoint mark 12-6. The Peacocks were unable to find their groove as they let the set slip away 25-12.
The Peacocks kept good spirits as they rallied the Jaspers to 6-6 in the third set. The Jaspers didn't let up as they pulled away upping their lead to 10-7. The Peacocks answered with a three point run including a kill by Przybocki, taking the lead at 11-10. Manhattan held their ground as they passed the Peacocks 19-13. Unfortunately the Peacocks only scored three more points before Manhattan took the final set 25-16.
"Another tough loss today. We tried some new lineups and saw some improvements," said head coach Monica Dempsey. "It's not the outcome we're looking for but we're not deterred from continuing to learn and grow."
Saint Peter's will return home this weekend to host Niagara on Oct. 22, and Canisius on Sunday afternoon.
