JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Saint Peter's won five of the six singles matches to earn a 5-2 victory against La Salle in non-conference men's tennis action on Sunday.
After dropping the doubles point to the Explorers, Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia/UMKC) won the No. 1 single match against Thomas Christian 6-1, 6-3. Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba/Elizabeth) defeated Mark Robinson 7-5, 7-5 at No. 2 singles while Gabriel Russotto (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) took the No. 4 singles match against Liam Rodriguez 6-1, 6-1. Douglas Nover (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) won at No. 5 singles against Lane Bangis 6-0, 6-2 and Cuong Lam (Vietnam/New Dorp) was victorious at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-4 against Brian Guidici. Jon Parades went to a pair of tiebreakers, but fell 7-6 (6-4), 7-6 (6-4) to Joseph DiOrio.
La Salle took the three doubles matches to earn the double point. Christian and Robinson defeated Ivanov and Jorge Rodriguez, 6-4. DiOrio and Liam Rodriguez teamed up to defeat Russotto and Nover 6-3 while Bangis and Guidici downed Paredes and Lam, 6-3.
Saint Peter's returns to action at Lafayette on Saturday. Match time is 2 p.m.
