JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Drexel downed Saint Peter's 6-1 in non-conference men's tennis action on Saturday.
Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia/UMKC) helped win two matches on the afternoon. Ivanov won a three-set thriller against Andrew Sinai at No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. He also teamed up with Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba/Elizabeth) at No. 1 doubles to earn a 6-4 win against Harmaza Laalej and Balaji Lakshmanan.
Despite the Ivanov-Rodriquez win at No. 1 doubles, the Dragons took the other two tandem matches to earn the doubles point. Sinan Orhon and Kashyap Ashok downed Jonathan Paredes (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and Cuong Lam (Vietnam/New Dorp) at No. 2 doubles 6-2 and Xabier Saavedra and Vuk Subotic downed Gabriel Russotto (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) and Douglas Nover (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) at No. 3 doubles, 6-0.
In other singles action, Rodriguez lost to Saavedra 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Laalej defeated Parades 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Russotto dropped a 6-0,6-1 decision to Lukshmanan at No. 4 singles, Orhon defeated Nover at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-1 and Justin Sinprasith (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep) fell 6-1, 6-0 to Subotic at No. 6 singles.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Sunday at home against former league foe Loyola. Match time is 10 a.m.
