JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Sacred Heart defeated Saint Peter's 5-2 in non-conference men's tennis action on Wednesday.
For the third-straight match, Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia/UMKC) had a hand in two match wins the Peacocks. The senior teamed up with Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba/Elizabeth) to defeat Brian Power and Matt Dean at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. Ivanov also defeated Power at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-4.
Andres-Sebastian Rojas (Quito, Ecuador/Centebad) and Gabriel Russotto (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) helped secure the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles against Karan Narula and Cory Seltman.
Saint Peter's won the doubles point thanks to taking two of three, but the Pioneers won the final five singles matches to earn the victory.
Dean defeated Rodriguez at No. 2 singles 7-6 (0), 7-5 while Derek Chapman downed Jonathan Paredes (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Rojas fell to Narula at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-2 while Russotto dropped a 7-6, 6-0 decision to Mathieu Pilote 7-6, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Douglas Nover (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) lost at No. 6 singles to Cory Seltman 6-1, 6-4.
Paredes and Cuong Lam (Vietnam/New Dorp) lost at No. 2 doubles to Chapman and Pilote, 6-2.
The Peacocks return to action on Saturday at home against Fairleigh Dickinson. Match time is 2 p.m.
