JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson swept a non-conference men's tennis match against Saint Peter's on Saturday.
Jake Whalley and Gonzalo Quintana defeated Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia/UMKC) and Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba/Elizabeth) at No. 1 doubles 6-3 and Adam Chan and William Bourne downed Jonathan Paredes (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and Andres-Sebastian Rojas (Quinto, Ecuador/Centebad) at No. 2 doubles 6-3 while Gabriel Russotto (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) and Douglas Nover (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) fell at No. 3 doubles to Diego Gamel and Kiram Mani, 6-2.
Whalley downed Ivanov 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to end a three-match winning streak for Ivanov. Quintana took down Rodriguez at No. 2 singles 7-6, 7-5 and Chan defeated Paredes 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Rojas went to three sets at No. 4 singles against Gamel 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 while Russotto fell to Mani 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Nover dropped his match to Bourne at No. 6 singles by default.
Saint Peter's returns to action against Marist on Tuesday. Match time is 3:30 p.m.
