JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Marist defeated Saint Peter's 7-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's tennis action on Tuesday.
The Red Foxes swept the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Fredrik Bjerke and Joe Motta downed Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia/UMKC) and Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba/Elizabeth) at No. 1 doubles, 6-4. Rudolf Kurtz and Dylan Fletcher defeated Andres-Sebastian Rojas (Quinto, Ecuador/Centebad) and Gabe Russotto (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) at No. 2 doubles 6-2 and Max Darrington and Carlos Moreno took down Jonathan Paredes (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and Douglas Nover (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) at No. 3 doubles, 6-1.
In singles action, Kurtz defeated Ivanov 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Rodriguez fell to Bjerke at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0 while Timo Tanzer downed Paredes 7-6, 6-1, 11-9 at No. 3 singles. Rojas lost to Fletcher at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1, Russotto fell to Paulo Siracusa 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Darrington downed Nover 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
In a doubles exhibition, Tanzer and Siracusa defeated Cuong Lam (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/New Dorp) and Justin Sinprasith (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep), 6-0.
Saint Peter's returns to action at Fairfield on Apr. 2. Match time is 12 p.m.
