Richmond Upends Saint Peter's Baseball

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Richmond defeated Saint Peter's 12-6 in non-conference baseball action on Friday.

Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) paced the Peacocks (1-5) with a 3-for-4 performance with three RBIs and two runs scored. Nick Ciocco (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) and Mike Ionta (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) each had three hits and a run scored in the loss.

Tyler Beckwith powered the Spiders with a 3-for-5 afternoon with four RBIs and three runs scored. Michael Morman and Jansen Fraser each added a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs while Kyle Adams had a hit and two RBIs in Richmond's third win this season against Saint Peter's.

Richmond jumped out to a 7-0 lead and then answered runs put up by the Peacocks to earn the victory.

Adams and Kurtis Brown got the scoring started with run-scoring singles in the first to give the Spiders a 2-0 lead.

Beckwith smacked a two-run homer in the second to increase the margin to four runs. In the fourth, Beckwith started a three-run rally with an RBI double to left center before Morman tripled home Beckwith and Adams plated Morman on a groundout for a 7-0 advantage.

Kristoffersen got Saint Peter's on the board in the fourth with a leadoff homer. With one out, Ciocco and Ionta reached on singles to center before James Spadaccini (Butler, N.J./Butler) loaded the bases when he was hit with the pitch. Jason Midkiff (Wanaque, N.J./Paramus Catholic) then scored Ciocco with an RBI ground to cut the margin to 7-2.

The Spiders answered with three runs in the fifth. Aaron Newman coaxed a bases loaded walk before Beckwith hit a sacrifice fly and Morman knocked in a run on an RBI groundout for a 10-2 lead.

Nick Cardamone (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) singled to third base in the fifth and then came around to score on Kristoffersen's second homer of the afternoon to make it a six-run game.

Fraser responded right back in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run homer of his own to increase the Richmond margin to 12-4.

Saint Peter's had one more rally in the sixth. Ionta singled to left center and moved to second on an error. After Midkiff singled through the right side to put runners at the corners, Nicholas Camilleri (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) singled home Ionta. After a groundout, Angel Perez (Jersey City, N.J./Marist HS) plated Midkiff on an RBI infield single to set the final score at 12-6.

Michael Ammerman (Howell, N.J./Howell) took the loss for the Jersey City team.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Saturday against Harvard at Wake Forest. Game time is 10 a.m.
