JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's women's basketball freshman forward, Zoe Pero (Secaucus, NJ / St. John Vianney) has made the 2016-17 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Rookie Team announced by the conference today. With her selection to the team, Pero becomes a candidate for the MAAC Rookie of the Year award.
"Zoe has had a terrific year," noted head coach Pat Coyle. "I'm thrilled she made the All-Rookie team, it's well deserved. Each day she has become more comfortable with the college game and her ability to get better everyday is paying off."
Pero has been a dominant forward for Saint Peter's averaging 7.1 points per game and 4.4 rebounds a game. She is leading the MAAC in free-throw percentage, shooting 82.2 percent from the line. Pero earned a starting position in the Peacocks line-up, starting the last 14 games of the season. She was also named MAAC Rookie of the Week on January 2.
The Secaucus, NJ native scored in double digits seven times out of the 29 games played in this season. Pero matched her season high of 18 points three times (December 30 at Brown, February 16 at Canisius & February 24 vs. Siena).
Pero is the second Rookie under head coach Pat Coyle to be named to the All-Rookie Team. Sajanna Bethea was named in the 2014-15 season during Coyle's second year as the Saint Peter's women's basketball head coach.
The women's basketball team heads to the Times Union Center in Albany, NY for the 2017 MAAC Championship. The Peacocks will be the No. 11 seed and play on Thursday, March 2 at 1:30pm vs. No. 6 Marist College.
