BUFFALO, NY – The Saint Peter's men's and women’s swimming and diving teams completed day two of the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) LifeStorage Swimming & Diving Championships in Buffalo, NY at the Burt Flickenger Center at Erie Community College. The men’s squad finished day one in eighth place with 83 points while the women’s team finished the second day in 10th place with 21 points.
On the men’s side, Igal Oren (Jersey City, NJ/Ort Kiryar Bialik) missed the podium by a hair, posting a 20.87 time in the 50-freestyle falling short of bronze medalist Daniel Knoll of Marist College who reached the finish with a 20.86 time. Eliran Epstein (Nahariya, Israel/Wester Galilee Regional) also competed in the race, finishing with a 12th place time of 21.26. Thomas Calloni (Milan, Italy/Saint Peter's Prep) posted a 4:39.19 time in the 500-freestyle, earning a 12th place finish.
The women’s team earned their first points of the championship in the 500-freestyle, with Karen Castaneda (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge High School) earning a 10th place finish with a 5:13.61 time. The team also picked up points in the 200-freestyle relay with Castaneda, Brianni Thomas (Jersey City. NJ/Dickinson High School), Alexandria Thomas (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge), and Kamila Pawka competing as the quartet.
Action continues on Friday morning at 10a.m with prelims and day three finals start at 6p.m.
