Theamaris Ramirez Selected to MAAC All-Rookie Team

EDISON, NJ – Saint Peter's softball sensation Theamaris Ramirez has been named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Rookie team, announced by the league tonight during the annual Softball Awards Show.

Ramirez is the second player under second year head coach Chris Stelma to make the MAAC All-Rookie team.

"I am very proud of the work Thea put in this year to earn this honor," said Stelma. "She was a constant force in our lineup, giving us a lot of production. She also played four different positions in the field for us this year. Thea is a very hard working individual and it brings the program joy to see her earn this distinction."

Ramirez, a 5-7 infielder, was dominant for the Peacocks in her first season leading the team in home runs, RBI, hits, doubles, walks, total bases, extra-base hits, batting average, and slugging percentage. She also ranked second on the squad in runs and on base percentage. A native of Homestead, FL., Ramirez did not disappoint in Jersey City, ranking among the elite in the conference. Her season totals produced the seventh best batting average (.333), she tied for fifth in doubles (11), she tied for third in homeruns (8), she tied for eighth in total bases (78), and she ranked sixth in slugging percentage (.605).

"Thea provided consistent play on both sides of the ball all year," Stelma added. "Having her in our lineup made the entire lineup stronger this year."

A redshirt freshman, Ramirez missed the 2017 season due to a knee injury.

"She put in a ton of work rehabbing last year to get to this point. That is not an easy thing to do when you would rather be playing," Stelma said. "Her diligence in her recovery carried over to her work on the field. She will be a big part of our program for the next three years and we expect her to come back even stronger next year."

Ramirez becomes the second Peacock named to the All-Rookie team in as many seasons and third in past four years, joining teammates Brianna Hutchinson (2017) and Nicole Feoli (2015).
