Women’s Volleyball Dominates Lafayette en Route to Second Win of the Season

The Peacock’s lost against Lehigh in the first game of the day, then took over in the second game against Lafayette to earn their second win of the season

EASTON, PA- The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team picked up their second win of the season. Earlier in the day, the Peacock's fell to Lehigh in a tight match (22-25, 23-25, 23-25) before coming back strong to finish the day with a win against Lafayette College (25-8, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21).
 
Game Notes vs. Lehigh:
  • The Peacocks (1-3) came up short in the first match of the day against Lehigh University.
  • It was a tight match throughout all three sets of the game.
  • Only losing by 3 points in the first set, then losing by 2 points in the second and third set.
  • Lehigh was able to come out ahead each set giving them the win over Saint Peter's. 
Game Notes vs. Lafayette: 
  • The Peacocks (2-3), pulled out another win in their second match of the day over Lafayette. 
  • The team went through four sets to pick up the win.
  • The Peacocks cruised through the first set (25-8), but just came short in the second set (21-25).
  • The team finished the match off winning the next two sets (25-20) (25-21). 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Peacock's had three players record double-digit digs against Lehigh: Angeleyshka Curbelo (14), Karla Seda (13) and Andrea Lombeyda (11).
  • Curbelo also earned a double-double with 12 kills and a team high of 14 digs.
  • Seda was right behind Curbelo with 13 digs.
  • Wildalys Soto had a team high of 22 assists.
  • In the win against Lafayette, Soto notched a double-double with a career high 37 assists and 13 digs.
  • Alanis Alvarado was just short of a double-double with 15 kills and 9 digs. 
  • Alexus Sharp followed Alvarado with 12 kills and Seda picked up 12 digs.
  • The Peacocks have now won two out of their last three matches. 
  • The last time the program won two out of three matches was back in 2014 when that team won back to back matches on October 8th and 11th.

  • "It was a solid day, but we're still learning how to win games. We had our opportunities against Lehigh but did not capitalize."
  • "In the second match we came out strong and then let our guard down, but we were able to rebound. Again, we had solid blocking at the net and solid contributions from Alanis and Alexus. Wildalys did a great job stepping in for Angelee with a double-double with 37 assist and 13 digs."
Up Next: 
  • The Peacocks are on the road again for two more matches on Wednesday.
  • The team will head south to Baltimore to face Morgan State at 2:00 p.m. and Coppin State at 4:00 p.m.
