JERSEY CITY, NJ - The NCAA released the annual Graduation Success Rate and Federal Graduation Rate Data on Wednesday and Saint Peter's University student-athletes achieved the school's highest-ever single-year GSR score of 94 percent during the cohorts from 2009-2012.
Seven programs posted a perfect score, which was based on the four entering classes between 2009 to 2012: men's basketball, women's basketball, men's golf, softball, men's swimming, women's swimming, and women's volleyball.
The graduation success rate of nine Peacock teams improved or stayed even, while four programs saw an increase from last year's cycle.
Baseball: 81 percent to 85 percent (+4)
Men's Basketball: 92 percent to 100 percent (+8)
Men's Golf: 100 percent to 100 percent (E)
Men's Swimming: 100 percent to 100 percent (E)
Women's Basketball: 90 percent to 100 percent (+10)
Women's Cross Country/Track: 89 percent to 95 percent (+6)
Softball: 100 percent to 100 percent (E)
Women's Swimming: 100 percent to 100 percent (E)
Women's Volleyball: 100 percent to 100 percent (E)
Saint Peter's also posted a higher federal graduation rate than the national average.
The Division I Board of Directors created the GSR in response to Division I college and university presidents who wanted data that more accurately reflected the mobility of college students than the federal graduation rate. The federal rate counts any student who leaves a school as an academic failure, no matter whether he or she enrolls at another school. Also, the federal rate does not recognize students who enter school as transfer students.
The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere. This calculation makes it a more complete and accurate look at student-athlete success.
