Swimming & Diving Enjoys Strong Performances at USMMA Invitational Saturday

JERSEY CITY, N.J. 
– The Saint Peter's University swimming & diving teams enjoyed very strong performances at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Invitational on Saturday. Many Peacock student-athletes earned multiple top finishes at the invitational.

Top Performances
  • In the 200-yard medley relay, the quartet of Justine Drake, Devyn Hantgin, Alina Geck and Efrat Marom placed first with a time of 1:54.22.
  • Mike Spark, Dylan Dela Cruz, Troy Pina and Brendan Vieira placed second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:34.30.
  • Three Peacocks posted stellar finishes in the 500-yard freestyle races. For the women, junior Marie-Christine Geck finished with a time of 5:24.39; on the men's side, Andrew Galarza finished first with a time of 4:46.24 and Noah Berlin came in a close second with a time of 4:47.50.
  • Junior Amelie Essmann pulled out two first-place wins in the 200-yard IM and 200-yard butterfly races with times of 2:17.87 and 2:15.19, respectively.
  • In the 100-yard freestyle, Jhonny Perez placed second with a time of 48.05, and Yann Le Gall placed third with a time of 48.14.
  • The women displayed a strong performance in the 100-yard backstroke. Efrat Marom finished first with a time of 59.60, while Drake finished second with a time of 1:01.16 and Natalie Davis finished fourth with a time of 1:02.97.
  • Dela Cruz finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.85.
  • Junior Martin Le Pays du Teilleul finished first in the 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard IM with times of 1:58.53 and 4:15.14 respectively. He also placed second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:58.16.
  • Two juniors showed out in the 200-yard butterfly; Amelie Essmann placed first with a time of 2:15.19 and Marie-Christine Geck placed second with a time of 2:15.81.
  • Efrat Marom finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.63.
  • Junior Andrew Galarza had another first-place win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.79.
Up Next
Both teams will compete again in two weeks at the Loyola Invitational on Dec. 6-7 in Baltimore.
