Swimming & Diving Sweeps MAAC Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – A trio of student-athletes from the Saint Peter's University men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept the weekly Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

Juniors Andrew Galarza and Marie-Christine Geck joined rookie Justine Drake as the honorees for the Peacocks, who were in action over the weekend with a dual match at Pace to round out the 2019 portion of their slate.

With the first award of his career, Galarza claimed the Men's Swimmer of the Week title. On Saturday, Galarza won the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle races at Pace and was a part of the quartet that grabbed a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Geck grabbed the Women's Swimmer of the Week title, which is her first award as a Peacock. This past weekend, she claimed two victories in the 500-yard freestyle and 1000-yard freestyle races. She also contributed to the second-place effort in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Rounding out the trio of honorees, Drake has concluded the first semester of her collegiate career with her second MAAC Swimming & Diving Weekly Award. Last month, she was named the Women's Swimmer of the Week after her strong performance in the program's home opener against Kean and Manhattan. On Wednesday, she claimed the title of Women's Diver of the Week after posting a score of 123.68 in the 1-meter diving at Pace.

Looking ahead, the Peacocks will enjoy a three-week respite before traveling to Miami for the South Florida Winter Training Classic at Florida International University on Jan. 7.
