BUFFALO, NY – Men's swimmers,
Arthur Bertrand and
Andrew Galarza each claimed medals for Saint Peter's on day three at the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Swimming & Diving Championships in Buffalo, NY at the Burt Flickenger Center at Erie Community College. The men's team jumped one spot in the team rankings, moving into eight place with 169 points while the women's team remained in ninth place with 73 points.
Bertrand placed seventh in the 100-yard backstroke, completing the race in 50.83 to earn his first medal of the championships. Galarza finished the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.46, good for an eighth-place finish and his first medal of the tournament.
Oleksiy Polishchuk had the top time in the men's 400 IM B-Final finishing in 4:01.52.
Yann Le Gall, who medaled yesterday, also swam in the men's 200-yard freestyle, claiming a third-place finish in the B-Final.
Guillem Perez and
Dylan Dela Cruz finished back-to-back in the B-Final of the 100-yard breaststroke, ending the race in fourth and fifth respectively. Mile Jantzi swam in the B-Final of the 100-yard backstroke and finished the race in seventh-place. The team also had its best relay finish of the championships thus far, finishing fifth in the 400-yard medley relay led by Bertrand, Polishchuk,
Dino Jajcanin, and Le Gall.
On the women's side,
Rachel Valentine finished fourth in the B-Final of the 100-yard breaststroke.
The championships conclude tomorrow. Action begins in the morning at 10 a.m. with prelims followed by finals at 6 p.m.
