Box Score 2 HAMPTON, VA - The Saint Peter's softball team dropped both games in the first day of the Pirate Invitational. The first game was against North Carolina Central, falling 9-0, and the second game was against Delaware State, dropping the game 6-5.
Game Notes vs. North Carolina State:
- In the second inning, North Carolina Central scored their first two runs of the game, going up 2-0.
- NC Central followed that up by scoring another run in the third inning bringing the score to 3-0.
- In the same inning, pitcher Barbara Verrastro notched her first strikeout of the game.
- In the fourth inning, Georgia Verrastro got the only hit of the game for the Peacocks, hitting a single to left field.
- The Eagles then scored six runs in the fifth inning, finishing the game with a 9-0 win.
Game Notes vs. Delaware State:
- The Peacocks started off strong in the first and second innings.
- Theamaris Ramirez hit an RBI single bringing in the first run of the game.
- The Peacocks scored three more runs in the second inning.
- Marissa Morales reached on a fielder's choice, which scored Anja Solveig Kane from third, putting the Peacocks ahead 2-0.
- The next run came on a sacrifice fly hit by Georgia Verrastro, which allowed Taylor White to tag up on third and score.
- A sacrifice fly by Alyssa Mido to right field brought in the final run of the inning, putting the Peacocks ahead 4-0.
- In the third inning Delaware State got their first two runs of the game.
- In the bottom of the third inning White singled down right field bringing in Solveig Kane for their only run of the inning, leaving the Peacocks ahead 5-2.
- In the fourth inning, Delaware State hit a homerun, shortening the Peacocks' lead 5-3.
- In the top of the fifth, Delaware scores three straight runs, taking the lead 6-5.
- Kane and White each led the Peacocks with two hits each.
- Sydney Senerchia had two strikeouts against Delaware State.
