Post Game Press Conference
ALBANY, NY – The No. 9 Peacocks' late comeback attempt against top-seeded Iona came up just short as the Peacocks fell 73-71 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Quarterfinal Round. The senior class of
Davauhnte Turner and
Samuel Idowu finished their careers at Saint Peter's combining to score 33 points in their final game.
Game Notes
- Iona jumped out to a 10-2 lead over Saint Peter's, but the Peacocks weathered the early storm and tied the game up at 13 a piece.
- The game seesawed back and forth for the rest of the half with five ties and six lead changes.
- At intermission, the Peacocks led by one, up 39-38.
- The Peacocks extended the lead to five points and with 10:35 on the clock held onto that lead.
- Iona went on an 8-0 run and retook the lead with just over eight minutes to play.
- Saint Peter's would fall behind nine points with 3 minutes to play before the heroics began.
- The comeback for the Peacocks started with a 3-pointer by Manny Dixon, to cut the deficit to 68-62.
- After Iona went back up by eight, Turner hit three-straight trifectas to pull the Peacocks to within one point, trailing 72-71 with 35 seconds left.
- The Peacock defense forced a missed layup and recovered the defensive rebound with 5.2 seconds remaining.
- On the inbound play, Turner was fouled with 2.0 seconds on the clock, putting him at the line for a one and one.
- Turner stepped to the line and missed the front end free throw which rimmed in and out, ending the Peacocks' chances at an upset win.
Inside the Numbers
- Turner finished with a team-high 23 points on 9 of 16 shooting from the field and 4 of 8 shooting from three.
- KC Ndefo finished the night with 12 points and four blocks.
- Idowu scored 10 points and added nine rebounds and three blocks.
- Watson chipped in with nine points and a team-high five assists.
- Saint Peter's won the battle in the paint, outscoring Iona 30-28 and outrebounding them 32-19.
