Men's Golf Travels to Montclair Golf Club for the Columbia Invitational

The Peacocks will compete in the one-day, two round event on Saturday

  • Saint Peter's men's golf heads to Montclair Golf Club in Montclair, NJ on Saturday, April 13 for the Columbia Invitational.
  • Montclair Golf Club is a par-70, 6585-yard course.
  • The 12-team, 36-hole invitational will be hosted by Columbia University.
  • The field will feature Bryant, Colgate, Fairleigh Dickinson, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Monmouth, Rider, Saint Francis Brooklyn, Saint Joseph's, Saint Peter's, and host Columbia, which will have two teams in the field.  
  • Last time out, the Peacocks finished the Wildcat Spring Invitational tied for 10th place.
  • Saint Peter's concluded the two-round event with a final card of 298-283=581 (+13), tying with MAAC foe Iona.
  • Jeffrey Peters' 25th place tie led the Peacocks individually, after he posted a team-best 75-68=143 (+1).
  • Peters' 68 (-3) second round was the team's lowest individual round in the invitational.

  • Saint Peter's will be pursuing its fourth MAAC title in the last six seasons at the 2019 MAAC Championships.
  • The tournament will be played at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL for the fifth consecutive year on April 18-20.
 
Mike Winter Named April Male Student-Athlete of the Month
  • The Saint Peter's Athletic Department named senior golfer Mike Winter as the Male Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of April.
Strong Showing at Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational
  • The Peacocks finished the 6,655 yard, par 72 Steel Club course with a final card of 294-306=600 (+24), good for eighth place out of 20 teams.
  • The Peacocks finished second out of seven MAAC schools in the field.
  • Mike Winter led the Peacocks by shooting two over par, 72-74=146 (+2), good enough for a ninth-place finish and a place in the field's top-10.
 
MAAC Awards This Season
  • Senior Mike Winter was named MAAC Men's Golfer of the Week on March 26.
  • Junior David Powers was named MAAC Men's Golfer of the Month in October.  
2019 MAAC Preseason Poll
  • Three-time MAAC champion, Saint Peter's men's golf, was selected second in the 2019 MAAC coaches' preseason poll, receiving 59 total votes with two first place votes.
Successful Fall Season
  • Saint Peter's had an impressive showing in the fall season, finishing top-two in three of the four events.  
  • The Peacocks took first in the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championship, tied for first place in the Hawk invitational, and had a runner-up finish in the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate.
  • In the Metropolitan Championship, the Peacocks dominated the two-day event posting a card of 283-300=583 (+23), 14-strokes better than the tournament runner-up.
  • At the Hawk Invitational, which was hosted by MAAC rival Monmouth, the Peacocks and Hawks claimed a share of the team title, both finishing with a final card of 289 (+5).
  • Mike Winter won the individual crown at the Hawk Invitational by shooting a 68 (-3).
MAAC Dominance over the Years
  • Over the past five seasons, the Peacocks have won three MAAC team championships, earned three appearances in the NCAA tournament, produced two MAAC Individual champions, two McLeod Trophy winners for the Most Outstanding Golfer (MVP), and three MAAC Coach of the Year award winners.
  • The Peacocks won the program's first and second ever men's golf titles in back-to-back seasons during 2014 and 2015, before claiming a third championship in 2017.
  • Individually, current head coach Nick Dilio and senior Mike Winter are the program's two individual MAAC champions, with Dilio winning the 2016 title and Winter winning in 2017.
  • Both were also named as the McLeod Trophy winners in the same seasons.
  • Six student-athletes have earned a total of 11 All-MAAC Team honors (Top-10 Finishes) since the 2014 season.
  • Dilio was named the 2017 MAAC Coach of the Year, becoming the second Saint Peter's head coach to ever win Coach of the Year honors, joining his former coach and three-time Coach of the Year winner Peter Falloon (2012, 2014, and 2015).
  • Dilio became the first person in MAAC history to win both the McLeod Trophy as a player and the Coach of the Year trophy as a head coach.

Leading the Peacocks
  • 2017 MAAC Coach of the Year, Nick Dilio enters her third season as the head coach of the Peacocks men's golf team.
  • In his second season at the helm of the Peacocks, Dilio coached two players who earned All-MAAC team honors by way of top-10 finishes at the MAAC Championship (Mike Winter, Jeffrey Peters). His squad finished no worse than top-five in every regular season tournament, claiming five top-three finishes in total. Dilio also coached two individual champions during the regular season (Peters, David Powers), and he produced one MAAC Golfer of the week (Powers) and one MAAC Golfer of the Month (Peters) during the 2017-18 campaign.
  • During Dilio's first season, he guided Saint Peter's to a MAAC championship, a NCAA Regional appearance for the third time in the programs history, and he was named MAAC Coach of the Year. Dilio became the second Saint Peter's head coach to ever win Coach of the Year honors, joining his former coach and three-time Coach of the Year winner Peter Falloon (2012, 2014, and 2015). Dilio also became the first person in MAAC history to win both the McLeod Trophy (MVP) as a player and the Coach of the Year trophy as a head coach. Under his guidance, the Peacocks also produced the MAAC individual champion and McLeod Trophy winner.
  • Dilio finished his collegiate career with the Peacocks by claiming the 2016 MAAC individual title. In the process, he participated in NCAA Regional action for the third consecutive year making him a three-time NCAA qualifier. He also finished as the MAAC runner-up as a junior and registered four top-15 – and three top-10 – showings at the MAAC Championships.
  • He also competed in the summer of 2016 at the prestigious Porter Cup, which ranks as one of the top amateur tournaments in the world. Through the years, the Porter Cup hosted many of the greats of the game, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Davis Love, David Duval, Ben Crenshaw, and Hal Sutton among others.
    In August 2018, Dilio became the only player to win four consecutive Dutchess
  • County Amateurs and he's won the tournament five of the last six years. Dilio is now the second player to win the amateur at least five times.
