Baseball Drops Weekend Series to Fairfield

The Peacocks fell in both games to the Stags to drop the weekend series

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's baseball team concluded its weekend series against the Fairfield Stags, falling in Saturday's twin bill 17-1 (7 innings) and 8-2.
 
Game 1 Notes
  • Fairfield scored two runs in the first inning, behind an RBI single and error.
  • From innings three through six, the Stags scored multiple runs per innings, to extend their lead to 17-0.
  • Julian Diaz scored the Peacocks only run in the bottom of the seventh, when Anthony Ramos reached base on a fielder's choice for the RBI.
 
Game 2 Notes
  • Saint Peter's offense jumped on Fairfield early as the Peacocks recorded three hits in the first inning.
  • Leadoff hitter, Hunter Mason doubled to center field to start the inning.
  • A sacrifice bunt by Edwin Feliciano moved Mason to third and then Peter Ferony drove in Mason with a single to left field to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.
  • Fairfield tied the game in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the fourth.
  • Saint Peter's knotted the contest in the bottom half of the fifth when an error by Fairfield allowed Mason to again score, tying the game at 2-2.
  • The Stags opened up the game in the seventh inning, scoring five runs to regain the lead.
  • Fairfield added one run in the ninth, to extend its lead to 8-2 for the final score.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Mason led the Peacocks with two runs scored.
  • Ramos, Ferony, and Jared Quintero each had an RBI on the day.
  • Edwin Feliciano hit a combined 3-for-6, posting the most hits between the two games for Saint Peter's.
 
On Deck
  • Saint Peter's returns to non-conference play on Tuesday with a meeting against Wagner at 3 p.m. in Jersey City.
  • Following three straight MAAC series at home, the Peacocks will hit the road next weekend for a series at Canisius.
