Baseball Drops Twin Bill against Manhattan

Despite holding a lead the majority of game two, the Peacocks fell in both games

TEANECK, NJ – The Saint Peter's baseball team dropped both of Saturday's MAAC contests to Manhattan at N. F. B. Complex on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson. The Peacocks suffered defeats of 15-7 and 7-6 (7 innings) in the doubleheader.
 
Game 1 Notes
  • The Peacocks scored the first run in the opening frame when Hunter Mason hit a RBI single through the left to score Andrew Connor from second base and give Saint Peter's a 1-0 lead.
  • The Jaspers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-1 edge over the Peacocks.
  • Manhattan added four more runs in the third to go ahead 8-1.
  • In the top of the fourth, Jesse Matos singled to left center which allowed Peter Ferony to score from third and give the Peacocks their second score of the game.
  • The Jaspers put three runs on the scoreboard in the home half of the inning to make the game 11-2.
  • Trailing 12-2 entering the seventh inning, the Peacocks tacked on five runs over the final three innings.
  • In the seventh, Connor scored from third on a throwing error by the catcher after Edwin Feliciano stole second.
  • A sacrifice fly by Ferony drove in Feliciano to put the Peacocks behind by a score of 12-4.
  • Saint Peter's run in the eighth came by another sacrifice fly, this time coming from Chris Marquart to left field, bringing home John Gavura.
  • In the final inning with bases loaded, Gavura reached on a fielder's choice and Mason scored from third.
  • Matos then stepped to the plate and drove in Ferony for the Peacocks' final run of the game, ending the contest in a 15-7 defeat.
  • Six Peacocks recorded two hits in the first game; Connor and Mason each went 2-for-5, Ferony, Jared Paladino, and Matos hit 2-for-4, and Anthony Ramos went a perfect 2-for-2 as a pinch hitter in the contest.
  • Matos led the team with two RBIs, while Mason, Ferony, Gavura, and Marquart each batted in one run.
  • Connor and Ferony both scored two runs to lead Saint Peter's.
  • Both teams had 14 hits in the game.
 
Game 2 Notes
  • Manhattan scored in the bottom of the first on a double steal to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Saint Peter's went on a four-run rally in the third to take a 4-1 lead.
  • The inning began with consecutive hits by the leadoff hitters, Matos (single) and Ramos (double) to put two runners in scoring position.
  • Trent Koerner then grounded out to second, advancing Matos across home plate.
  • With two outs, Mason doubled down the left field line to score Connor and Ramos.
  • Mason then stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher for the fourth run in the inning.
  • Manhattan scored a run in the fourth to cut the Peacock lead to 4-2.
  • In the fifth, Connor hit a two-run homer to center field giving Saint Peter's a 6-2 advantage over Manhattan.
  • The Jaspers would score five unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-6 lead
  • In the seventh and final inning, the Peacocks loaded the bases with two outs but a ground ball to the third baseman ended the game as the Jaspers completed a 7-6 comeback win over the Peacocks.
  • Ramos again went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk and two runs to the lead the Peacocks.
  • Connor batted 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Mason was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

  • The Peacocks will conclude the weekend MAAC series with Manhattan on Sunday, May 12 at 12 p.m.
