JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's Athletics Department celebrated the end of the academic year with its annual awards banquet, recognizing teams and individuals for athletic, academic and community achievement at The SP's.
The awards-style format included student-athletes walking the blue carpet, student-athlete award presenters and senior videos. The night ended with all seniors receiving a framed jersey to commemorate their time as a Peacock.
Sean Powers Honored with Bill Stein Peacock Pride Award
Director of Athletics
Bryan Felt presented the evening's first award to Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations,
Sean Powers, for his continued dedication to Saint Peter's Athletics for 20+ years. The
Bill Stein Peacock Pride Award goes to the individual or group that demonstrates excellence in leadership and have made significant contributions to the university and community.
Working Hard on the Field, in the Classroom and in the Weight Room
The Softball team was honored as the 2019 Academic Team of Champions, with 10 athletes finishing the Fall 2018 semester with a 3.5 GPA or higher. The team also holds a department high 3.51 GPA. Douglas Nover (Men's Track & Field/Cross Country) and Schieler Collins (Softball) were named the Scholar Athletes of the Year, awarded to the male and female student-athletes that had the highest cumulative grade point average over their four-year career.
Director for Athletic Performance, Strength and Conditioning,
Mike Vasalani, presented the Iron Peacock Awards to Jordan Jowers (Men's Soccer) and Rachel Ingram (Women's Soccer), for their tireless efforts in the weight room. Tiffani Lambert (Softball) and Hunter Mason (Baseball) were awarded the Comeback Players of the Year by the Sports Medicine Department, for working their way back from injuries and back onto the field.
Softball Wins Inaugural Pride Cup
The Pride Cup is a year-long competition between all athletic teams that incorporates academic achievement, team performance, community service, attendance at mandatory programming, and support of fellow athletic teams. The softball team excelled in the classroom and participated in multiple community service events, including collaborating with the Jersey City PAL to host a clinic and volunteering at Hudson Milestones, a day habilitation center for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Members of the Saint Peter's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) presented the evening's biggest awards, including Athletes of the Year and the new awards of "Best Game of the Year" and "Best Performance of the Year", which were voted on by the student-athletes.
- Male & Female Freshman Athletes of the Year - Melvin Morales (Men's Golf) and Karen Ramiu (Women's Volleyball)
- Male & Female Sophomore Athletes of the Year - Dominic Laws (Men's Soccer), Jeffrey Peters (Men's Golf) and Victoria Scarratt (Women's Soccer)
- Male & Female Junior Athletes of the Year - Hunter Mason (Baseball) and Alina Guevara (Softball)
- Male & Female Senior Athletes of the Year - Davauhnte Turner (Men's Basketball), Michael Winter (Men's Golf) and Barbara Paiva (Women's Soccer)
- Best Game of the Year - Baseball's 3-0 win over Monmouth - 4/1/19
- Best Performance of the Year - Barbara Paiva's two goal effort vs. Rider - 10/24/18
