JERSEY CITY, NJ – Saint Peter's University Director of Athletics
Bryan Felt announced today the addition of
Chris Aliano as the Associate Director of Athletics for Digital Media and Communications.
"We are fortunate to add Chris to our Saint Peter's Athletic family," said Felt. "He is an incredibly talented communications professional who will serve a leadership role within our department overseeing the day to day operations of our communications team, while also managing all aspects of our digital and new media initiatives."
"I'm honored, humbled and very eager to get to work alongside an incredibly passionate and dedicated support staff at Saint Peter's," said Aliano. "It's obvious that the University believes in investing in the athletic department's mission and vision, which makes this a truly exciting time to be part of this nationally renowned institution."
In this newly created position, Aliano will be responsible for the management of the Peacocks All Access Digital Network and ESPN productions, set to begin during the 2019-20 academic year with the department's purchase of a custom built, first-of-its-kind, Sprinter Van mobile production unit. Aliano will lead the digital media team's efforts to produce live and video content to the ESPN3 and ESPN+ platforms. He will also provide administrative leadership in planning, coordinating and implementing Saint Peter's Athletics media relations program and in the strategic development of news content and news dissemination across all platforms, including web, digital video, publications, external news platforms, traditional news media and social media.
Aliano comes to Saint Peter's from Merrimack College, where he most recently served as Assistant Athletic Director for Communications. In his role a Merrimack, he oversaw the publicity of Merrimack's 22 Division II and two Division I varsity programs while serving as the primary media contact for men's ice hockey, football, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's cross country and women's golf, as well as the department's administrators and coaches. His responsibilities included overseeing the distribution of information for all varsity sports to appropriate organizations; managing all content on the department website, its social media platforms and its streaming services; serving as a liaison between the media and the athletic department's coaching staffs and student-athletes; and overseeing the design and implementation of department signage, promotional material and graphic design-based content.
During his seven-year tenure, Aliano oversaw two department website redesigns and spearheaded a partnership with industry leader SIDEARM Sports to serve as the online home of Merrimack Athletics. He paved the way for the athletic department's first true streaming platform in 2013, which has grown to feature nearly 100 broadcasts each year. He also coordinated media relations for several conference tournament and NCAA Tournament events hosted at Merrimack and has volunteered at multiple NCAA Frozen Fours and Hockey East Championships. He previously served on the Division II East Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) for men's tennis for three years (2015-18).
Before Merrimack, Aliano spent the summer of 2012 and 2013 serving as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the North Adams SteepleCats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. He was selected by the league to broadcast the 2012 and 2013 All-Star Game by his peers and fellow league administrators. Aliano spent 2011-12 serving as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Bryant University, where he served as the primary contact for men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, field hockey, and softball.
Aliano graduated from Boston University in May of 2011 with a degree in broadcast journalism. While at BU, he served as sports director of the on-campus student radio station, WTBU, as well as the station's beat writer for the men's ice hockey team. He was a broadcaster for a number of BU sports, as well. He earned his master's degree in sports management from Southern New Hampshire University in 2018.
