JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's swimmer
Troy Pina will compete at the 18th Fédération Internationale De Natation (FINA) World Championships starting July 12 through July 28 in Gwangju, South Korea. Pina will be swimming for his native country, Cabo (Cape) Verde, at the championships.
This will be the second FINA World Championship that Pina is competing in, after he swam in the short course (25m) FINA Championship in December. Pina will be swimming in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly events.
"Troy will be competing in the biggest swimming competition in the world next to the Olympic Games, a tremendous accomplishment, and our team is very proud to have him represent the Peacocks around the world," said head swimming & diving coach, Mark Kretzer. "Troy has been a great ambassador for our school and athletic program while abroad. I am excited to see how Troy does this coming month in Korea, and I wish him luck in chasing his ultimate goal of representing Cape Verde in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games next summer."
