NEW BRITAIN, CT – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team closed out the Central Connecticut State (CCSU) Invitational on Saturday with defeats to Bucknell (17-25, 16-25, 25-23, 10-25) and Rhode Island (20-25, 18-25, 17-25).
Match Notes vs. Bucknell
- Meeting for the second time in a week, Saint Peter's and Bucknell played to four sets at the CCSU Invitational.
- The Bison grabbed the first two sets from the Peacocks, winning 25-17 and 25-16.
- After being swept in last week's meeting against Bucknell, Saint Peter's pulled off a third set victory this time around, winning 25-23.
- The teams went neck and neck for the entire set from start to finish.
- Both teams exchanged blows as the set produced 12 ties and six lead changes.
- Knotted at 23-23, the Peacocks stole the set win after an attack error by Bucknell, followed by a set clinching service ace from Imani Spicer.
- The Peacocks comeback bid came up short as Bucknell claimed a fourth set victory of 25-10 to end the match.
- Alanis Alvarado was the lone Peacock with double-figure kills (11) in the match.
- Stephanie Rivera was a force at the net, blocking three solo shots and one assisted block.
- Karla Seda posted a team-best 21 digs.
Match Notes vs. Rhode Island
- In the final match at the CCSU Invitational, the Peacocks were swept by A10 member, Rhode Island.
- The Rams topped the Peacocks 25-20, 25-18, and 25-17 leading to the win.
- Alvarado led all-Peacocks with six kills, while Rivera and Carolina Ruiz both logged five kills of their own.
- Saint Peter's had a trio of players register double-digit digs, with Seda's 13 leading the way. Ruiz and Andrea Lombeyda followed with 12 digs each.
Inside the Numbers
- Alvarado closed out the invitational with a team-leading 17 kills and 15 digs. Rivera's stat line included 13 kills, five digs, five total blocks.
- Seda led all-Peacocks with 34 digs and Wildalys Soto set the offense with a team-high 31 assists through the two contests.
