Women’s Soccer Gets Back on Track with 1-0 Road Win at Siena

Peacocks defeat Saints for the first time in 21 years

LOUDONVILLE, NY - The Saint Peter's women's soccer team got back in the win column with a resounding 1-0 road win at Siena on Saturday in New York. Saint Peter's sophomore Brooke Boutchie notched the game-winner for the Peacocks, dropping in a free kick from about 20 yards out in the first half to propel the program to their first win against the Saints in 21 years.

Game Notes
  • The first 25 minutes of the match proved to be a back-and-forth battle between the two sides, with Siena putting up four shots compared to three from Saint Peter's.
  • In the 28th minute, however, Brooke Boutchie sent in a free kick from 20 yards out, which snuck in between a vertically stretched keeper and crossbar to put the Peacocks up, 1-0.
  • Saint Peter's would carry the momentum through the first half and into the second, with excellent goalkeeping from Victoria Scarratt preserving the visitors' lead.
  • The Saints would rattle off 19 shots in the contest, with 14 of them coming in the second half and nine them finding their target, but Scarratt stayed perfect throughout, rejecting all nine shots to pick up her second clean sheet of the season.
Breaking the Cycle
  • Saturday's win marks the Peacocks' first win against the Saints since Sept. 11, 1998, when Saint Peter's won an overtime decision, 2-1.
  • With the victory, the Peacocks break a 21-game losing streak against the Saints.
  • The win also marks the first time since Saint Peter's has defeated Siena in Loudonville since Oct. 10, 1992, which was also the first win in the history of the program.
  • Saturday's match marks the first time the Peacocks have shut out the Saints since they won, 2-0, on Sept. 14, 1996.
Inside the Numbers
  • Saturday's goal was the first of 2019 for Boutchie, as well as her second game-winner of her collegiate career.
  • Saturday's shutout marks the second clean sheet for Scarratt in 2019, with her first coming against Hampton on Aug. 28.
  • The win also snapped a six-game winless streak, as the Peacocks turn the calendar to October with an even conference record of 1-1-0.
