Indianapolis, IN – For the second consecutive academic year, the Saint Peter's women's cross country team received recognition by the NCAA for its multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR). The honor is awarded to teams with an NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports in the Academic Year.
This was the women's cross country team's fourth time receiving the honor, having also earned the recognition in 2018-19, 2004-05, and 2012-13. The team becomes the 25th overall squad from Saint Peter's to receive the recognition.
The NCAA recognized nearly 1,400 Division I programs from 326 schools for their academic excellence. Teams earning Public Recognition Awards increased to 1,380, up by 52 from the previous academic year, largely due to an increase in squads with perfect scores. APRs for programs in the top 10 percent ranged from 987 to a perfect 1,000. The number of teams posting perfect scores increased to 1,266, an increase of 52 teams from last year.
Each year, the NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. This year's release will again include recognition in the sport of football by subdivision (i.e., Football Bowl Subdivision and NCAA Football Championship Subdivision).
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced May 19.
This is the 15th year of the NCAA Public Recognition program with the inaugural year being 2004-05.
