JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team beat Rider University by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Senior forward Amber Whitley started in net and made four saves while senior forward Mya Daniels scored the late winner. Head coach Julia Bazi and her staff earned their first win at Saint Peter's.
Game Notes:
- The Peacocks were forced to start senior forward Amber Whitley in goal due to injuries to the other goalies.
- Saint Peter's was unable to put any shots on target in the first half. Freshman forward Julianna Jatkola came closest in the first minute, but her attempt went just high.
- Whitley was forced to make two saves in the final five minutes of the first half to keep the score tied at zero going into the half.
- Freshman midfielder Lula Mansilla Medina registered the first Peacock shot on target at the 52nd minute mark, but her attempt was saved.
- The Peacocks kept applying pressure over the next twenty minutes, creating multiple scoring chances, but were unable to find the back of the net.
- Daniels was able to put the Peacocks on the board in the 86th minute, as junior midfielder Madison Greenberg played a cross in from the right side that Daniels flicked off of her head over the goalie.
- Whitley made another save less than a minute later, as the Peacocks were able to hold off the Broncs for the last few minutes to secure their first win.
