JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Dec. 12, 2021) - Junior Fousseyni Drame registered his fourth career double-double and second of the season to lead the Saint Peter's University men's basketball team to its most lopsided victory since 1983, taking down Nyack College 87-48 Sunday inside Run Baby Run Arena.
Drame went 10 for 11 from the floor, finishing the contest with a career-high 22 points while also pulling down 12 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive glass, to help the Peacocks improve to 3-5 this season.
The 39-point win is the largest victory for SPU since taking down Fairleigh Dickinson University 84-44 on Jan. 18, 1983.
The Peacocks also got a season-best 15 points from senior Isiah Dasher who made his first start for SPU and was a perfect 5 for 5 from the floor.
Junior Daryl Banks III joined Dasher and Drame in double figures with 15 points of his own, scoring at least 10 points for the fifth time in the last six games.
How It Happened
- After the Peacocks started the game by 12 of the first 16 points, the Warriors responded with a 10-2 run to tie things up at 14 with 12:57 remaining in the first half.
- It was all SPU from there, however, as freshman Jaylen Murray and Dasher knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to jump start a 20-2 run to swell the lead to 34-16.
- The flurry featured points from Murray, Dasher, Drame and Latrell Reid who was able to put in his first bucket of the season in the win.
- The Peacocks led by as many as 18 in the half and went into the break up 15 at 41-26.
- SPU put the contest away for good to start the second stanza, outscoring Nyack 19-3 over the first six minutes of game action to swell the lead to 31 at 60-29.
- The Peacocks cruised from there, growing the lead to as many as 40 before a late 3-point bucket from the Warriors cut the final deficit to 39.
Inside the Numbers
- Led by the efficient nights from both Drame and Dasher, SPU shot a season-best 57.6 percent from the floor and 47.4 percent from distance.
- Nyack, meanwhile, finished shooting just 28.1 percent overall and 26.1 percent from 3-point range.
- Every Peacock to appear in the contest registered at least three points and seven finished with at least six points.
- As he has throughout his career, junior KC Ndefo was a force defensively with five blocked shots to bring his career total to 232, the fifth most among active DI players.
- SPU capitalized on mistakes all day, scoring 19 points on 11 Warrior turnovers and also held a 17-3 edge in fastbreak points.
- Murray was extremely effective running the offense for the Peacocks with seven assists to go along with eight points and six rebounds.
- The Peacocks also dominated down low, outscoring Nyack 46-12 in points in the paint.
- SPU is 3-1 this season when at least three student-athletes score in double figures.
- The Peacocks are now 4-0 in the four contests Drame has produced a double-double in his career.
