Softball Unveils 2022 Schedule

Peacocks to play full 56-game season for first time since 2019

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Dec. 13, 2021) - After back-to-back unconventional seasons on the diamond, the Saint Peter's University softball team has released its full schedule for the 2022 season, taking on non Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference competition for the first time since 2019.

The Peacocks will compete in a 56-game schedule in 2022 with 20 MAAC contests starting Feb. 25 and culminating at the MAAC Championship May 11-14.

"We are beyond excited to have a full 56 game schedule for 2022," head coach Chris Stelma said. "Only our senior class has experienced that. We have a great balance this year including some bigger opponents which should prepare us better for conference play. We have been working and putting our focus where it belongs to make for a strong '22 season."

SPU will open the season at the Eastern Shore Classic in Princess Anne, Md., hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Friday, Feb. 25th with a doubleheader against Lafayette College and UMES. The Peacocks will face off against the Leopards two times and the Hawks three times over a three day period from Feb. 25-27.

One weekend later, SPU will head to the state of South Carolina for the Scotsman Invitational hosted by Presbyterian College. The Peacocks will open the tournament March 4 with a doubleheader against Stony Brook University followed by a contest against the host Scotsman. SPU will then take on Youngstown State University and PC on March 5 and finish the weekend with another matchup against the Sea Wolves of Stony Brook March 6.

The Peacocks will remain in the state of South Carolina for four games over two days March 7 and 8 against South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C.

SPU will make a quick stop in Washington, D.C., on the way back from the South Carolina trip to take on Howard University in a doubleheader on March 10.

After the trip, the Peacocks will take a week off before returning to action March 17 in the Rutgers Softball Tournament against UMES. SPU will face off with Rutgers in a road contest March 18 and wrap up the tournament with a doubleheader against Stony Brook and Holy Cross University March 20.

Three straight mid-week road doubleheaders await next for the Peacocks, starting with a March 23 pair against Delaware State University. SPU will then take on Wagner University March 29 and Fairleigh Dickinson University March 31 to close out the month.

The home opener for the Peacocks will happen over a month into the season when they open MAAC play with a doubleheader at Jaroschak Field on April 2 against Siena.

One week later, SPU will take on Quinnipiac on the road in Hamden, Ct. on April 9 and will step outside conference play April 13 with a doubleheader against Coppin State University.

SPU then travels to Fairfield, Ct., to take on Fairfield University in a doubleheader on April 16 before making a trip to Easton, Pa., to face off against Lafayette April 19.

One day later, the Peacocks will welcome Wagner to Jersey City on April 20 before a trip to Lawrenceville, N.J., April 23 to meet up with rival Rider University.

April 24 begins a stretch of six consecutive home games for the Peacocks, starting with a MAAC doubleheader against Monmouth University followed up by back-to-back non-conference contests against Howard and FDU on April 26 and 28, respectively, at Jaroschak Field.

It's all MAAC play from that point on for SPU, starting with four games in the trip to upstate New York against Niagara (April 30) and Canisius (May 1).

A midweek, mid-day MAAC matchup with Manhattan follows on May 4 on the road prior to the final weekend of the regular season.

SPU closes out the year with a pair of home doubleheaders against Marist May 7 and Iona May 8 prior to the MAAC Tournament May 11-14.
