Opening Word:
- The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team returns home this weekend to host Siena for its final pair of home games in 2020-21.
- This series will take place from Feb. 26-27, with a noon tip-off on Friday and a 4 p.m. rematch on Saturday.
- Most recently, the Peacocks split their weekend series at Niagara from Feb. 20-21, dropping a heartbreaking 83-82 loss in game one, but bouncing back for a commanding 70-55 win in game two.
- Freshman Ajia James went on a tear against the Purple Eagles, finishing the weekend with two double-doubles, leading the team in scoring and rebounds in both games with a 20-point, 15-rebound outing on Feb. 20 followed by a 17-point, 16-rebound performance on Feb. 21.
- Prior to this Saturday's (Feb. 26) contest, the team will honor redshirt-senior Taiah Thornton and graduate Jenna Clark in the team's senior day ceremony.
Series with the Saints:
- Saint Peter's enters this weekend's series with an all-time record of 32-41 against their conference foes from Albany.
- The two sides each took victories at home last season, with the Peacocks securing an 87-83 win in their MAAC home opener in Jersey City on Jan. 6, 2020, while the Saints took the 71-54 decision in Loudonville on Feb. 22.
- The Jan. 6 win at home marked Saint Peter's first triumph over Siena in nearly a decade, following its previous 53-45 victory in the all-time series coming on Feb. 13, 2010.
- Thornton (15.5 points) and classmate Kendrea Williams (12.5 points) each averaged double figures against the Saints last season and will look to build upon those performances this weekend.
Romping Rookies:
- Both James and classmate Sky Castro had a career weekend against Niagara from Feb. 20-21, as both freshmen set multiple career highs through the two games.
- Both players set new scoring marks, as James finished the Feb. 20 matchup with a season-high 20 points while Castro set a new scoring-best with 18 points.
- The two rookies also set new bests in field-goals made in the initial exchange, with each play finishing with nine buckets from the floor.
- James finished with 16 rebounds in the team's Sunday victory, setting the highest single-game mark for the Peacocks this season.
- Castro was perfect from the line in the 70-55 win, setting a new career-best by going 6-for-6 from the charity stripe, while Castro also put up a career-best 5-of-7 from the line in the same contest.
- James also finished with a career-best five assists in the Peacocks' win, and each player clocked their most minutes played in a single game over the weekend, as James played 38 minutes in game one, while Castro saw the floor for 36 minutes in game two.
Up Next:
- The Peacocks will travel north to Poughkeepsie next weekend for their season finale against Marist from March 4-5. Both games are scheduled for 5 p.m. tip-offs.
