Opening Word:
  • The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team will return to action this weekend following a nearly three-week hiatus, as they head to Riverdale for a matchup with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Manhattan.
  • The game is set to air on ESPNU in a 12 p.m. start and will be the Peacocks' first appearance on the platform this season.
  • The two sides have already squared off in a two-game series this year on Jan. 1-2, with the Jaspers securing a series sweep. The third game will serve as a non-conference tilt for both sides.
  • Most recently, the Peacocks split their series with hOURglass rival Rider on Jan. 16-17, narrowly dropping the first game 65-62, but rallying for the second contest to come away with a 59-50 victory.
History with the Jaspers:
  • Saturday's fixture marks the 95th meeting between the Peacocks and the Jaspers, as Saint Peter's enters this weekend with an all-time record of 54-40 over the green and white.
  • Earlier this season, the two programs met in Riverdale to start the new year, with the Jaspers sweeping the series by scores of 71-46 (Jan.1) and 69-55 (Jan. 2).
  • With a return to Manhattan this weekend, Saint Peter's will still be searching for its first road win over the Jaspers in nearly six years. The team's last win at Draddy Gymnasium came on Feb. 7, 2015, when the Peacocks walked away with a 68-58 decision.
Walking Bucket:
  • As of February 5, Saint Peter's redshirt-senior Taiah Thornton stands as the only MAAC women's player to have scored over 200 points on the season. Ahead of the Feb. 6 matchup with Manhattan, she has scored 204 points in 2020-21.
  • The Pennsauken native leads the Peacocks on the offensive side of the ball and ranks fourth in the league in scoring average with 14.6 points per game.
  • Thornton recently showed her dominant scoring ability against Rider, matching her single-game career high of 30 points in the Peacocks' 59-50 victory over the Broncs on Jan. 17.
  • The redshirt-senior also leads the MAAC in field-goals made this year, having hit 76 shots from the floor through 15 games.
Up Next:
  • The Peacocks will head north on I-95 to Connecticut to square up against Fairfield for a two game series from Feb. 8-9. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
