JERSEY CITY, N.J. – After a successful season debut during last Saturday's Peacock Invitational at Lincoln Park, the Saint Peter's University men's and women's cross country programs will head to Galloway, New Jersey, for the 2020-21 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Cross Country Championships on Friday. Recapping the Peacock Invitational
- A pair of transfer student-athletes making their Peacock debuts last weekend's season opener, as Saint Peter's ran its first cross country race in nearly a year and a half on Saturday at Lincoln Park.
- First-year sophomore transfers Francis Martingale and Shelby Piccinic led all runners on the men's and women's side, respectively, in a race that featured local colleges New Jersey City University and Essex County Community College.
- A sophomore transfer who previously ran for UConn's cross country and track & field programs, Martingale led all runners in the 8K men's race by finishing in 19:17.72, averaging a sub-four mile (3:52.9).
- Arriving after spending two years at Army West Point, Piccinic led a 10-person field on the women's side and won the 5K race in 15:13.29, averaging just under a five-minute mile (4:54.0).
Saint Peter's at the MAAC Championship
- Since the championship included both men's and women's teams since the 1983 season, Saint Peter's has combined for 16 top-five finishes between the two teams (seven for the men, nine for the women).
- The program's best finish was when both the men and women finished in third place at the 1994 championship.
- Saint Peter's Hall of Famer Katie Kopacz holds a MAAC Championship cross country 5K course record (17:07.10, 2000, ESPN Wide World of Sports - Lake Buena Vista, Fla.).
- The men's team will be looking for its first top-10 finish at the cross country championships since 2012, when it placed ninth.
- The women will be looking to earn a ninth-place or better finish for the first time since the 2010 campaign, when they also finished ninth.
