Four from Baseball Competing in Summer Leagues

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Three student-athletes from the Saint Peter's University baseball program are competing in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League this summer.

Rising juniors Christian Coombes and Sam Delcollo are playing for the PGCBL's Newark Pilots and Auburn Doubledays, respectively, while rising sophomores Matthew Dubois and Kyle Mahady are both members of the Oneonta Outlaws. The trio are competing in the 16-team league that was founded in 2010. Each team plays an eight-week, 48-game schedule from June through August with playoffs in early August.

Coombes has been rock solid out of the bullpen for the Pilots over four outings; he sports a sub-two ERA (1.86) entering Tuesday with 11 strikeouts over 9-2/3 innings. He has gone 1-1 on the mound, as well. The Ontario native took the mound seven times in relief this past spring for Saint Peter's, striking out nine over 7-2/3 frames.

Delcollo has logged action in five games for Auburn thus far; he recorded one hit – a double – back in his debut on June 3. Auburn is 9-9 entering play on Tuesday, in second place in the Central Division. The outfielder and Pennsylvania native concluded a stellar sophomore year in Jersey City, one that saw him lead the team in batting average (.297) and on-base percentage (.378) while recording 19 hits and three doubles over 22 contests.

Dubois and Mahady have both combined for 10 appearances on the mound for Oneonta thus far. Dubois has made four starts and tossed one complete game entering Tuesday's action; he has fanned 19 over 20-1/3 innings and has picked up one win in that span. Mahady has pitched exclusively in relief, recording six appearances; he has 12 punchouts through 15-2/3 innings and has picked up a save, as well.

Both Dubois and Mahady combined to make 20 appearances both as position players and on the mound this past spring; Mahady logged 13-1/3 innings with 12 strikeouts, while Dubois fanned 30 – second-most on the team – over 29 innings.
