Men’s Soccer Gets Back In the Win Column By Beating Siena

JERSEY CITY, NJ- The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team defeated Siena 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Fifth year Matt Hoyt scored his first goal of the season on an assist from freshman forward Teodor Linn and senior midfielder Roodlenscky Charles. The win was the teams first in conference play.

Game Notes

  • Siena peppered the Peacocks to start the game, forcing graduate goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho to make three saves within the first 15 minutes.
  • Senior defender Tom Climpson had the first real chance for the Peacocks. His attempt was saved in the 17th minute.
  • After back and forth play, the Peacocks jumped on the board after a ridiculous strike from Hoyt in the 41st minute. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Peacocks heading into the break.
  • Hoyt again tested the Saints keeper in the 57th minute, but his attempt was saved.
  • Siena continued to push ahead for the equalizing goal throughout the second half, but the Peacocks defense held firm throughout to earn the win.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Peacocks registered seven shots. Hoyt led the way with three and freshman midfielder Reiss Skeen had two. Climpson and freshman midfielder Lex Vaughan also had one.
  • Saint Peter's recorded four shots on target. Hoyt had two while Climpson and Vaughan had one.
  • Badenes Mecho made four saves and earned his fourth clean sheet of the season.

Thought's From the Manager - Julian Richens

  • Hard fought conference game today against a very good Siena team. Our third clean sheet in a row at home has given us a good platform in the game.
  • Great finish from Matt, which we know he is capable of.
  • We knew they would come at us in the second half and I felt we absorbed a lot of pressure without conceding any real chances.

Up Next

  • The Peacocks hit the road for the final time this season, visiting Quinnipiac on Saturday, October 22nd. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
