Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Williams’ 30, Brown’s Double-Double Power Women’s Basketball Past Monmouth Monday Night

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team beat Monmouth 78-66 Monday night in Run Baby Run Arena. Graduate guard Kendrea Williams scored a season best 30 points while junior center Kassondra Brown recorded her sixth consecutive double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

The first quarter was closely contested between the two teams. Brown scored the first four points for the Peacocks while Williams followed with the next five to give the Peacocks a 9-8 edge. After Monmouth took the lead, Williams made her second three of the quarter with 2:48 left to cut the deficit to just two. She finished with 10 in the quarter. Freshman forward Kaila Dawkins and sophomore forward Sky Castro would each contribute buckets to close out the quarter, as the Hawks led by three heading into the second.

The Peacocks re-took the lead with 7:45 to go in the second quarter after Brown hit a basket from long range. The Hawks would re-take the lead shortly after that and would not surrender it for the rest of the half. Brown would score 18 total points in the first half, as the Hawks held a 39-35 edge at the break.

The third quarter belonged to the Peacocks. They outscored Monmouth 20-8 in the frame. Williams was able to make her third three of the game with 7:05 left in the quarter to give Saint Peter's a 42-41 edge. Towards the end of the quarter, Williams and senior guard Kourtney Crane came up with back-to-back steals that resulted in layups for them causing Monmouth to call a timeout. Saint Peter's led 55-47 at the time and would carry that score into the fourth quarter with them.

Saint Peter's lead would never fall below six in the fourth quarter. One of the biggest reasons why is because of their free throw shooting. The team shot 15-16 at the line in the frame, not allowing the Hawks to get back in the game. The Peacocks ended their two game losing streak, while also winning their fourth straight game at home. They split the season series with Monmouth at one game apiece.
