Track and Field Announces 2022 Outdoor Schedule

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's University men's and women's track and field teams announced the remainder of their outdoor schedule for the 2022 season on Wednesday.

Closing the Book on 2021

  • The Peacocks performed in nine events during last year's outdoor circuit and posted several strong showings, including a first place finish for both the men and women in the first day of the Peacock Outdoor Invitational.

  • At the MAAC Championships, then-sophomores Lorretta Owoh and Vernetta Gosier led the way for the Peacocks. Owoh, who went undefeated in field events during the regular season, came out on top in the triple jump with a distance of 11.56 meters. Gosier won the 100-meter dash, winning in 12.21 seconds, nearly a tenth of a second faster than the next-closest competitor.

Preseason Polls

  • As released by the MAAC earlier last week, the Saint Peter's men's track and field team placed fifth in the preseason polls. They received 31 votes.

  • The women placed seventh in the preseason polls, receiving 35 votes.

Meet the Peacocks

  • Head coach John Marshall will be entering his fifth season with the program and his fourth full season of indoor and outdoor competition after starting in March of 2018.

  • Clardo Nestor looks to build on his strong indoor season after multiple first-place and school record-breaking finishes.

  • Among the underclassmen is Delano Gooden, who made his presence felt as a freshman by competing in all eight events a year ago. He was a top-3 finisher in the 100-meter dash at the MAAC Championships last season with a time of 10.93 seconds while also setting a personal record in the 200 meters at the MAAC in 22.38 seconds.

  • On the women's side, sophomore hurdler Abigail Vital competed in all eight outdoor meets a season ago and will look to provide that same stability again for the Peacocks. Last year, she won the 100 hurdles at the Metropolitan Championships with a personal-best time of 15.21 seconds. Her time was sixth-best in the MAAC for the outdoor season.

  • Freshman Diamond McLaughlin has been an instant impact for the program. Similar to the impact Nestor has had on the men's side, McLaughlin has come in as a freshman and claimed multiple first-place and record-breaking finishes.

  • Newcomers Fiyin Amori and Val Augustin on the men's side have also made an impact early on in their Peacock careers. Amori, who is a transfer from Monmouth University, placed sixth in the triple jump during the 2020 MAAC Championships. Augustin, a transfer from Rider University, claimed first place in his first meet as a Peacock during the indoor season. As a result, he claimed MAAC weekly honors for his performance.

  • The relay team on the women's side has already had an impressive start to the season, in which Balikis Iyiola, Alexus Smith, Mikell Dolo, Vernetta Gosier, Reyanna Henderson, and Janai Orders were able to capture victory in the 400 with a time of 50.19 at the 26th Annual Monmouth University Track & Field Season Opener. This mark was a full two seconds faster than the second place finisher.

The Road Ahead

  • The Peacocks will compete in 10 indoor meets this season.

  • The season began at the 26th Annual Monmouth University Track & Field Season Opener, where the Peacocks were able to capture two first-place finishes.

  • The April slate is stacked with meets, including the Colonial Relays on April 1st and 2nd and the Metropolitan Championships from the 8th to the 9th.

  • The May schedule includes the MAAC Championships (5/7-5/8), the IC4A/ECAC Championships (5/14-5/15), and the NCAA Preliminary Rounds (5/26-5/28).

  • The NCAA Championships close out the season in the beginning of June from the 8th to the 11th.
