Women’s Basketball Loses Regular Season Finale to Fairfield

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team lost to Fairfield 56-43 Saturday night in Run Baby Run Arena. Freshman forward Kaila Dawkins led the way for the Peacocks, scoring ten points and nine rebounds.

After trailing 9-4 early, the Peacocks responded with three points from Dawkins, as she scored a layup and then made a free throw. Dawkins would later add another layup with 1:57 to go in the quarter. Fairfield led 14-10 after the first frame.

Sophomore guard Rachel Kuhl kicked things off in the second quarter for Saint Peter's, draining a three from distance. Senior guard Kourtney Crane followed that with a layup to tie the game at 15. Fairfield went on a 7-0 run after that before junior center Kassondra Brown made a layup. Fairfield followed that basket with another 7-0 run. Saint Peter's finished the quarter with buckets from Dawkins and sophomore forward Sky Castro to cut the deficit to six. The Stags led 29-23 at the half.

Opening up the second half, senior guard Nickelle O'Neil made a three to cut the Stag lead to three. Crane was able to make two straight baskets for Saint Peter's in between Fairfield baskets before fouling out. After Kuhl made a jumper with 3:05 to go in the quarter, Fairfield closed out the quarter by scoring four straight points. They led 47-34 after three.

Saint Peter's was only able to score four points over the course of the first five minutes, with sophomore forward Victoria Ikenasio scoring all of them. Kuhl capped off the scoring for the Peacocks with a three with 52 seconds left. Fairfield wins 57-43.
