NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Saint Peter's women's volleyball (0-5) opened the CCSU Invitational with a loss against Columbia on Friday night.
The Lions earned a sweep (25-17, 25-22, 25-9) in the neutral-site match to take their first-ever victory over the Peacocks.
Match Notes
- The Peacocks kept it tight midway through the first set, but Columbia closed on an 11-4 run to take the opener.
- Saint Peter's and Columbia battled back-and-forth, with the Peacocks leading 22-21 in the second set. The Lions used a timely 4-0 to go up two sets.
- Columbia started the third set strong and finished stronger, closing out the match with a 25-9 victory in the final frame.
Inside the Numbers
- Freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Tucker had team-highs with five kills and two aces. Freshman middle blocker Morgan Thurlow matched Tucker with five kills.
- Freshman middle blocker Elena Bilhartz recorded a team-high three total blocks.
- Freshman setter Lillian Konrad had 15 assists.
- Freshman libero Laken Dillon had a team-high seven digs, along with an ace.
