NEWARK, NJ. - The Saint Peter's cross country team competed in the Metropolitan Championships over the weekend at Branch Brook Park. The SPU men's team finished in ninth place in the men's 8K and the women's team finished the women's 5K in tenth.
The highest finisher for the Peacocks in the men's 8K was Brendan Heaney. The SPU junior completed the race in 29:00.3 and finished in 62nd place. Gerardo Quaglia was the 70th placed finish (30:37.7) followed by Connor Ziolkowski (30:54.8), Diego Ruiz (30:56.1), Devon Bembridge (31:54.9), and Ryan Fernandez (32:11.3). Columbia's Matt Gatune finished the race in first with a time of 24:44.
In the women's race, Diamond McLaughlin led the women's side with a time of 24:03 and finished in 76th. Mikayla Surles completed the race in 25:56.4 followed by Michele Cherono (9.43.2), and rounded out by Mikell Dolo (35:55.5), and Basilikis lyola (35:55.7). Hofstra's Jordyn McDonnell finished the race first with a time of 17:09.5.
Next, the Saint Peter's cross country program is slated for the IC4A/ECAC Championship at Van Cortland Park in Bronx, New York on Saturday, Oct. 14.
