BUFFALO, NY. - The Saint Peter's men's basketball team (3-4, 2-0 MAAC) picked up a 54-52 win over Canisius (5-4, 1-1 MAAC) on the road Sunday. The victory marked the best start in MAAC play for the Peacocks since 2020. Additionally, this is the first time Saint Peter's men's basketball has swept the Buffalo trip with consecutive wins at Niagara and Canisius since the 2009-2010 season.
Latrell Reid led the Peacocks offensively with 10 points and seven rebounds. Roy Clarke tallied a season-high eight points. Corey Washington and Michael Houge scored eight points each.
The Griffins shot 4-8 (50%) from three-point range in the first half. Canisius scored five of the last seven points in the opening half and led 25-18 at halftime.
Saint Peter's answered back in the second half. The Peacocks went on a 20-3 run that started with a layup from Micheal Houge in the paint at the 11:50 mark, and featured two three-pointers from Brent Bland. Armoni Zeigler knocked down a jump shot in the paint and capped off the run with a free throw which extended the Saint Peter's lead to 50-43 with 3:22 left in the game.
Clark went 4-4 from the free throw line in the final 1:49. The SPU senior hit two free throws with 58 seconds left which gave the Peacocks a 54-49 advantage. The Griffins' cut the deficit to two after a three-pointer from Tre Dinkins. Canisius had one final possession down two points at 54-52. The Peacocks defense stood tall as the Griffins missed a layup as time expired.
Next, Saint Peter's takes a break from MAAC play, and travels to Pittsburgh for a game at Duquesne (5-2) on Friday, Dec. 8 at the UPMC Cooper Field House.
