JERSEY CITY, N.J.- Saint Peter's University baseball junior
Jack Eichler (Verona, N.J.) blasted a solo homerun as the Peacocks won the series finale 6-5 against Rider University in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest.
The Peacocks improve to 5-32 overall and 3-12 in the MAAC, while the Broncs fall to 28-13 and 11-4 in conference play.
Saint Peter's jumped out to an early lead as Eichler blasted a solo homerun in the opening inning. The Broncs answered with a run in the second but the Peacocks rallied in the third.
Junior
Nick Markantonatos (Portland, Ore.) and junior
Sam Haney (Lake Oswego, Ore.) droves in runs with singles in the third to retake the lead at 3-1.
The teams traded runs in the fourth as senior
Anthony Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) drove in a run in the inning as Saint Peter's held a 4-2 lead. Rider pulled even with two runs in the fifth to tie the score at 4-4.
The Peacocks battled back in their half of the inning as the pushed ahead 6-4. The Broncs got a run back in the sixth but the bullpen closed the door in the final innings.
Sophomore
Kyle Mahady (Nazareth, Pa.) tossed 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. Sophomore
Jack Gannon (Warwick, R.I.) came on for the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out one to earn his first save of the season.
The Peacocks host Wagner College on Wednesday, April 26 at 3 pm at Jaroschak Field.
