JERSEY CITY, N.J.- Saint Peter's University softball graduate
Sydney Senerchia (Northford, Conn.) tossed a complete game in a game one win, while freshman
Tai Turner (Havre De Grace, Md.) blasted a three-run walkoff homerun in the nightcap to power the Peacocks to a twin bill sweep in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.
The Peacocks improve at 27-17 and 6-8 in the MAAC while the Stags fall to 16-23 and 7-9 in conference play.
Senior
Cara McNulty (Middletown, N.J.) gave the Peacocks the early lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Stags answered with run in the second to tie the game and took a 2-1 lead with a run in the third.
McNulty came through again for Saint Peter's as she tied the game with a run scoring single in the third. Fairfield rallied back, pulling ahead 3-2 with a run in the fourth.
The Peacocks rallied back in the fourth as senior
Courtney Fraher (Greenwich, N.Y.) ripped a two-run single to put Saint Peter's back in the lead at 4-3.
Serenchia took it from there, allowing eight hits, three runs in a complete game effort to improve to 15-4 on the season.
In the nightcap, Fairfield took the early lead with a run in the second and added a run in the sixth for a 2-0 lead.
Saint Peter's battled back with four runs in the sixth as they loaded the bases with one out.
Sophomore
Dakota Pitts (Abington, Md.) tied the game with a two-run single, while sophomore
Jess Forte (Middlesex, N.J.) drew a bases loaded walk later in the inning to force in a run. Junior
Maiah Skakal (Horseheads, N.Y.) singled in a run to cap the rally and put the Peacocks up 4-2.
Fairfield answered in their half of the seventh as they scored four runs to retake a 6-4 lead.
The Peacocks rallied in their final at-bat as graduate
Anja Solveig Kane (Manchester, Township, N.J.) reached on an error to start the inning. Following two strikeouts, Pitts singled with Kane and Pitts moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. This set up Turner to play heroics as she blasted a three-run walkoff homerun to give the Peacocks a 7-6 win and a key conference sweep to keep their playoffs hopes alive.
Senerchia tossed the first 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts. Freshman
Sydney Palmer (Fellsmere, Fla.) earned the win in relief, going the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits to improve to 8-6.
The Peacocks travel to Iona University for a MAAC doubleheader Sunday, April 30 at noon.
